Welcome to the Institute of Modern Languages Research
Facilitating, initiating and promoting dialogue and research for the Modern Languages community
The AHRC-funded Open World Resarch Initative intends to explore and foreground the central role that languages play in relation to key historical and contemporary issues, such as social cohesion, migration, health, business and diplomacy. The initiative seeks to have a significant impact on the study of modern languages in the UK. See more about the Institute of Modern Languages Research's Translingual Strand below:
Located in the heart of Bloomsbury, at the centre of academic and intellectual life in London, the Institute of Modern Languages Research is home to a diverse, international and vibrant community of scholars covering our major language areas.
Every year, we offer a range of opportunities for visiting scholars, with or without funding, to conduct research into any field relevant to the work of the Institute.
Proposals are invited for the 2017 competition to publish in imlr books, a book series in Modern Languages (French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and comparative studies, in fields other than Linguistics). The series is published by the Institute of Modern Languages Research, University of London.
Regional Conference Grant Scheme
The Regional Conference Grant Scheme aims to support the study of modern languages outside London, to promote inter-institutional collaborations, and bring together scholars from the wider region as participants or attendees. Submit your proposal to win a grant of up to £2,000.
