MRes and PhD Study at the Institute

The Institute is keen to recruit outstanding students to its MRes and PhD programmes from September 2015. The one-year MRes programme is supervised by the IMLR and includes a translation module delivered in conjunction with the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). PhD supervision is available in French, German, Hispanic, Latin American Studies and Italian Studies, and can be offered as part of the LAHP programme , co-supervised with experts in King’s College or University College.

The Global Reach of La Rioja

The evening celebrating the literature and wine of La Rioja region on 27 November drew a diverse audience of some 150 which included members of the Spanish diplomatic service, academics, students, translators, lawyers, film producers, musicians, publishers, and wine connaisseurs.

Literary Translators of the Future Discovered in DAAD-IMLR Competition

Among the books and other prizes awarded on Thursday to the winners of the DAAD-IMLR translation competition, the most treasured must have been the opportunity to share in the Encounter between Annett Gröschner, whose prose they had translated into English, and Katy Derbyshire, translator of much of Gröschner’s work.

Modern-day 'salon littéraire' gets off to a great start at the Institut Français

Maylis de Kerangal’s Naissance d’un pont , winner of the 2010 Médicis prize, was the novel chosen for discussion at the first of this season’s Reading Groups, a modern-day version of the salon littéraire , held at the Institut Français and chaired by Dr Dominic Glynn, the IMLR’s Lecturer in French.

Overwhelming Response to Translation Competition

The response to the second online writing competition for learners of German, co-organised by the IMLR and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), has been overwhelming. Learners at all levels (school, university students, and the general public) were asked to translate a passage from Annett Gröschner's (as yet untranslated) novel Walpurgistag (Witches' Sabbath). Of the 205 valid entries received, those of school students made up one-third, easily outnumbering the other categories.
