The IMLR offers a programme in research skills and methods to its own students, to students at other institutes of the School of Advanced Study, and to graduate students (MA and research) of modern languages in universities in London and beyond. The programme, comprising a series of Saturday workshops, has been running since 1999 and it is taught by teachers from the Institute and University of London Colleges and other UK universities.

The programme is offered free to graduate students.

11.00   Working with images in theory and practice (Ben Thomas, Kent)

This session deals with working with images in Modern Languages: art works, literary texts and organizing exhibitions.

14.00 Working on photography (Theresa Mikuriya, University of West London)

In this session, we will explore the difficulty of the photographic medium and what Roland Barthes in Camera Lucida calls the "madness of the Photograph”.
