Description
Bloomsbury was a magnet to refugees due to its cheap boarding houses, Bohemian reputation and the lure of the British Library. Find out how support for refugees was coordinated from Bloomsbury, how exiles contributed to Britain’s anti-Nazi propaganda war, and how activists plotting the Nazis’ downfall were spied on by MI5 agents. The tour brings to life work by the Research Centre for German & Austrian Exile Studies and will be illustrated by voices and images from exile archives of the Institute of Modern Languages Research at Senate House Library.
The walking tour is guided by Clare George.
