How to Apply

MRes Applications

The deadline for applying for a place is 31 August each year.

Please read the guidelines ‘How to Apply’ carefully before submitting your application via the online system.

A non-refundable application fee of £50 will need to be paid before your application can be considered. Institutes will aim to make to make decisions on applications within 28 working days, although where an interview takes place, this may not be possible.

If you have any queries about the course application and/or admissions process, or if you require course and application material in hard copy, please fill in the online enquiry form.

MPhil/PhD Applications

Initial enquiries about research supervision should be addressed to the Director, Professor Catherine Davies, attaching a CV and a research proposal (catherine.davies@sas.ac.uk).

Research degrees can be completed on a full-time basis (up to four years) or on a part-time basis (up to seven years). The Institute can also offer students the opportunity to undertake their PhD by distance learning. Students would be required to attend our London campus at set intervals to complete an intensive research training module, for upgrade, and for the viva, but will otherwise study at their own location.

You can apply online for a PhD programme through the School of Advanced Study website.

If you have any queries about the admissions process, or if you require application materials, please contact the School Registry by emailing sas.registry@sas.ac.uk.
