Archive material has been deposited with the Institute of Germanic Studies (today, The Institute of Modern Languages Research) since its foundation in 1950, by many individuals and organisations.
There are a number of discrete collections which give a unique overview of the history and development of Germanic studies in the UK from the 19th century onwards. The invaluable primary sources they contain provide a rich resource for the study of subjects as diverse as language and literature, theatre history, exile studies and political satire.
